Yes, it is. While they’re a lot of fun to read, the truth is this “pseudoscience” does nothing but play on the suggestions of those who read or listen to the words. It ties in with mediums and psychics and the concept of “cold reading,” which is a form of leading toward specifics.
It basically goes like this: psychic says something sort of vague, and the listener fills in the details on his or her own. It could be anything. What makes the whole idea of cold reading so successful is the simplicity that people need to hear the hits and simply ignore the misses as just random flukes that they might not remember or catch–such as certain sounds of a name that can resemble a clearer name of some kind that happened to be within their past. Psychics and mediums really do operate on pure simplicity. It’s very true.
Astrology works the same way. For instance: a Gemini could be characterized on any given horoscope as “insightful, caring and faithful” while a Cancer generally says “wise, gentle and steadfast.” Notice something about those two descriptions? The words actually mean somewhat the same thing! We don’t put two and two together on it, though, because we’re usually focused on our own given sign; and if anyone else reads their sign to us, we usually associate the meaning as something unique, like someone else. Astrology highlights individuality, which is something we all desire.
It’s not a bad thing, however. Really, whoever said that astrology and horoscopes hurt people? However, if you’re a dedicated astrologer, you might want to re-examine your profession just a tad if you’re not comfortable with the idea of dealing with a myth!
