The argument over the question whether astrology is a science or a mere belief-system has been has prevailed through years, yet no conclusive evidence could be cited in favor of the claims of the astrologists that it was a science since it deals with the planets and their influence on human body, mind and environment. Astrology studies the connection between human beings and various celestial bodies roaming around the space. There are many books written by noted astrologers which claim astrology as a science as they cite many statistical evidences to favor their arguments.
In order to predict accurately, an astrologer need the exact time of a person’s birth. Then he goes through lengthy calculations to find the planetary positions for the person at the time of his birth. A person’s astrological chart can contain many major and minor factors responsible for accurate zodiacal interpretations. An array of interpretation can exist for the same chart.
However, all the emphasis the astrologers put on the exactness of the data gives the impression that it might be scientific. Still, astrology is not believed as an objective science, because of the lack of empirically verifiable objective data. Astrology has never been supported by objective data which is done in any scientific research. No systematic collection of data and method of documentation exist to give it the status of science. Most astrologers simply do not have the temperament and knowledge to allow their findings to be tested in an independent and objective manner.
Still, there are people, and even many scientists who believed in astrology and said to have gained from it. This has led many astrologers to claim that though astrology is not a science like physics or chemistry, it may fall under the category of the behavioral sciences like sociology. Nevertheless this claim too has not been very widely accepted because, even with astrology, there are many systems of which one contradicts with the other.
