Water on Mars

Are you interested in a little science lesson? Let’s learn a thing or two about Mars and the presence of water on the Red Planet.

Why does water on Mars matter? People have asked this question since it was speculated that there might be water on the planet to begin with. The reason this question has been asked time again is simply because water is one of the major building blocks of life. The presence of water could indicate things like bacteria which can be the basis of life. It is often asked if there may have once been a life form on mars, and it’s said that this wouldn’t have been possible unless water could or may have once existed.

Water on Mars

Unlike Earth, where the majority of its surface is covered with water, the planet Mars only has water in two forms. The first form is water vapor. Although the presence of water vapor is really very small, it definitely does still exist. The other form of water that you are going to find on the planet known as Mars is ice. Recently several missions to mars have put small robots on the surface of Mars to search for water in liquid form or the history of water once being in liquid form. Although no liquid water was found, the most recent mission’s robot dug into the surface of the planet and found ice at around two inches below the surface.

This tells us a lot more about the planet than we previously knew, because it does mean that there is potential for there to be more water on the planet. As we send additional robots to Mars to explore its depths, we hope to continue learning about what the planet has to offer.
